3 injured, 2 seriously, in Lake View hit-and-run crash – NBC Chicago


Chicago Police said a man was in custody after he allegedly hit three different people in a hit and run crash in the Lake View neighborhood early Sunday morning, leaving two of the victims in critical condition.

Authorities said the man was driving the 3900 block of North Broadway at around 12:49 a.m. when he collided with a man and woman as they were crossing the street near the intersection of Broadway and Irving.

A 55-year-old cyclist was trying to rescue the two victims when the driver of the vehicle turned around, also hitting the cyclist.

The driver then fled, but hit a fence one block from North Broadway and was taken into custody by officers who responded, police said.

One of the victims who was struck as she was crossing the street, a 39-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital, where she was classified in critical condition after suffering a head injury from the collision . The man she was crossing the street with was taken to an undamaged area hospital after sustaining a leg injury.

The cyclist was taken to an area hospital, where he was classified in critical condition after suffering a head injury.

The driver of the vehicle was treated for bruises on his face at Illinois Masonic, and charges are pending against him, according to Chicago police.
