CHICAGO – A 30-year-old Chicago man has been charged with a fatal hit and run in August.
On Aug. 14, police said Brett Dimick was driving in the 3500 block of N. Fremont Ave. in the Lake View neighborhood when he hit two pedestrians in a crosswalk, killing Sophie Allan, who was a cancer survivor.
Dimick then fled, police said.
“He shouldn’t have been driving in the first place,” Assistant State’s Attorney James Murphy said. “He was driving recklessly and basically mowed down these two pedestrians. She survived cancer but did not survive an encounter with this defendant.”
Dimick allegedly left behind a pair of sandals which were later attached to him through DNA analysis.
Dimick turned himself in to police on Monday.
