Child drowns at Margaritaville Lake Resort on Lake Conroe


The child and his family were from out of town and were on vacation at the resort.

CONROE, Texas – Police are investigating after a child drowned Friday at Margaritaville Lake Resort on Lake Conroe.

Conroe Police Department said they received a call around 3:30 p.m. about a 6-year-old girl who was found unconscious in the pool. Investigators said the girl was wearing lifebuoys and removed them at one point.

Police said family members and witnesses began CPR immediately until EMS arrived at the scene. The child was taken to the Texas Children’s Hospital at The Woodlands where she was pronounced deceased.

Police said the girl and her family were from Louisiana and were on vacation.

Investigators said a lifeguard was on duty but walked away and followed protocols, blocking some areas.

The Margaritaville Lake Resort on Lake Conroe issued the following statement about this incident:

The team at Margaritaville Lake Resort, Lake Conroe | Houston extend their deepest sympathy and prayers for the peace and comfort of the family involved in today’s unfortunate tragedy.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., an incident occurred at one of the swimming pools involving a child. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene.

Out of respect for the family concerned, any questions should be referred to local authorities. “
