Lake Resources NL (ASX:LKE) (OTCMTS:LLKKF) hit a new all-time high by confirming positive initial test results from Novonix Ltd (ASX:NVX) (OTCQX:NVNXF) showing its lithium carbonate performs better than commercially available battery-grade lithium carbonate in lithium-ion battery cells.
Testing revealed that Lake’s high-quality product provided better capacity retention and electrochemical behavior in button cell batteries compared to product commercially available from Tier 1 producers.
Shares jumped 23.5% in early trading to reach AU$0.475, a new all-time high, while the company’s market capitalization sits at around AU$390.4 million.
Larger scale testing will be conducted using batch synthesis to demonstrate repeatability, homogeneity, and cell characterization and validation in complete lithium-ion bagged cells, within lineage facilities. Novonix pilot-scale cell phones in Nova Scotia, Canada.
This will allow Lake and its potential partners and customers to make direct comparisons of Lake’s lithium product performance in familiar battery chemistries.
Novonix expects this testing process to take a few months and will notify the market as soon as the results are available.

Novonix received commercial samples of NMC622 hydroxide precursor from Tier 1 producers, as well as high purity 99.97% lithium carbonate samples from Lake, for direct comparison around the world reality of Lake’s product in NMC622 batteries and its suitability for the nickel cathode sector.
The cathode material was tested for electrochemical properties using half cell tests.
The powders were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to understand morphology and phase purity. XRD showed no impurities.
Lake’s lithium carbonate was used as is and also ground, but no appreciable difference was noted in the resulting NMC powders when synthesized.
NMC622 was mixed with conductive carbon and binder, cast onto an aluminum foil current collector, dried, punched, and assembled into a lithium-ion battery half-cell which yielded similar voltage profiles, a better capacity retention and better electrochemical behavior compared to commercially available product from Tier 1 producers.
