Lake Resources NL Modular Demonstration Plant Shipped to Kachi Lithium Project in Argentina


The Lake Resources NL (ASX: LKE, OTCQB: LLKKF) modular demonstration plant, designed and built by the Lilac Solutions Inc engineering team, was sent from California, USA to the Kachi Lithium project in Argentina.

The disruptive lithium processing technology will reduce operating costs and boost lithium recovery from brines from the Kachi Project while protecting scarce water resources.

Lilac Solutions, technical partner of Lake. assembled the ion exchange modules and supporting equipment for the demonstration plant in five x 40 foot (12 meter) shipping containers.

The modular design allows for a “plug and play” approach, once brine supply, power supply and reagents are connected.

A truly disruptive technology

Lilac CEO Dave Snydacker said, “Our technology is truly disruptive; we have taken ion exchange, a non-mining technology solution that is ubiquitous in the water treatment industry, and through cutting-edge innovations, we have created a unique technology for lithium extraction, which we believe will reduce operating costs and boost lithium recovery for lithium chemical production from Kachi brines.

“Compared to conventional technology, our production process is less expensive and offers 80-90% higher lithium recovery rates to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate, while protecting the local environment, including water resources.

“Our process is modular, produces high-purity lithium, and can scale quickly from pilot to commercial stage – our equity stake ensures rapid commercialization of Lilac technology on what is a globally important lithium resource.

“We’ve worked extensively with this brine, generating the data needed for engineering studies, and it’s a fantastic addition to the Lilac technology.”

Inform the final technical design

The demonstration plant will operate for approximately three to four months to produce lithium chloride (eluate) representing 2.5 tonnes of lithium carbonate.

This will be converted to battery grade high purity lithium carbonate for potential buyers and battery qualification later this year.

On-site demonstration plant operations will also inform the final engineering design prior to construction of the commercial-scale project.

Meanwhile, test work at the Lilac Solutions facility in California continues to produce the data required for the Definitive Feasibility Study and lithium carbonation test work continues at Hazen Research in Colorado.

Today, Lake shares are up 8.21% to A$1.055, while the company’s market capitalization is around A$1.27 billion.
