SAN ANGELO, Texas – A student at Lake View High School intended to enjoy Florida beach over Memorial Day weekend, but instead spent time in the hospital after being attacked by a shark.

Cody High, 15, was playing with his nieces and nephew in knee-deep water near Cocoa Beach in Florida on the east coast when a shark put his jaw on his left calf on Saturday night, according to a fundraising page put together by her cousin, Janice Hotz.

Cody was taken to a nearby Cape Canaveral hospital and then transferred to a children’s hospital in Orlando, where a surgeon sewn up his leg, according to Hotz, who lives in Virginia.

Authorities told the family that a 6-foot bulldog shark bit the teenager.

The shark tore off part of Cody’s calf. Hotz wrote on the gofundme page that the doctor told his family there were too many stitches on his leg to count.

Funds raised will help cover Cody’s medical bills, according to the page.

She was screaming, ‘Oh my god! ‘is it past?’ “Cody told the station. . “It was just like a hand that was squeezing as tight as possible. My older brother, he really likes playing pranks on me, and it really was like he had just grabbed me with his hand.”

Hotz said Cody’s family were in Florida on summer vacation to go to Disney World. She said the shark attack happened on day one in Florida.
