SAN ANGELO, TX — Students at San Angelo Lake View High School will have the opportunity to earn double credit on core courses taught by Angelo State University faculty beginning in the fall.
ISD San Angelo and Angelo State University are thrilled to announce an enhanced partnership with Presidential Dual Credit Scholars that will provide additional in-person dual credit core course offerings to our Lake students. View High School taught by ASU faculty and accredited Lake View High School teachers. Enhanced dual credit opportunities allow students to earn college and high school credits simultaneously, and will be available to freshmen through seniors at no cost to the student (up to 3 courses per semester) . These new dual-credit courses will provide LVHS students with the opportunity to earn credit hours in core subjects, meaning these students could earn a bachelor’s degree from Angelo State University with a bachelor’s degree in less than 4 years with little or no debt.
“This partnership with Angelo State University will open new doors for our students at Lake View High School, paving the way to college as one more opportunity to prepare for the future for our students,” said Dr. Candi Callas. , SAISD Director of High School Curriculum and Instruction. “High school students who may not have considered going to college can now see this as a route to a college degree. Having university professors teach our students alongside our teachers will be a monumental experience for LVHS leaders!
We will begin offering these dual credit options to our Lake View students beginning in Fall 2021. Students will have the opportunity to express interest in on-campus courses beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, May 11.
Lake View students enrolled in these dual-credit courses will spend one day every 9 weeks on the ASU campus to experience what college life is like. Students will be bussed from LVHS to ASU to participate in various activities to experience first-hand what it’s like to be part of the Ram Fam, such as access to learning resources through ASUincluding blackboard and tutoring services. An ASU graduate assistant is also available on the Lake View campus to discuss college readiness and opportunities for our students’ academic future.
