New Delhi, August 19: The Delhi-Chandigarh highway has become the country’s first EV-friendly highway, with a network of Solar Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SEVCs) set up by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) under FAME-1 [Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) & Electric Vehicles in India] scheme of the Ministry of Heavy Industries. The state-of-the-art charging station at Karna Lake Resort was remotely inaugurated by Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister for Heavy Industries, in the presence of Shri Arun Goel, Secretary (MHI). Dr. Nalin Shinghal, President and CEO, BHEL and other senior officials from MHI and BHEL were also present on the occasion.

Recalling the speech of the Honorable Prime Minister on the 75e On Independence Day, Dr Pandey said, “The Honorable Prime Minister made it clear that environmental security is of equal importance to national security and that India is making every effort to become energy independent “. India is a vibrant voice for environmental security which includes climate change, energy conservation, clean energy transition efforts, etc. and the nation’s environmental efforts have begun to yield the desired results. This is an important step towards realizing the vision of the Honorable Prime Minister, he said.

The Karna Lake resort electric vehicle charging station is strategically located in the middle of the Delhi-Chandigarh highway and is equipped to cater for all types of electric cars currently circulating in the country. Placing similar EV chargers at regular intervals of 25-30 km. on the highway will ease the anxiety of electric vehicle users and boost their confidence for intercity travel. The SEVC stations are equipped with individual grid-connected rooftop solar power stations that will provide green and clean energy to the charging stations.
