Mayor Wilfred Rosas and the City of Dunkirk’s Planning and Development Department would like to inform residents that the full street beautification project on Lake Shore Drive is scheduled to begin on Wednesday and will continue through the fall. Drivers should be aware of lane changes and reduced speeds during construction.
Access to commercial aisles will be maintained throughout the project.
The project includes beautification and streetscape work on Lake Shore Drive from Main Street to Brigham Road. Work to be completed includes new curbs, drainage and traffic improvements along the route of new cycle lanes, signage and a single footbridge. The work will also include the installation of median islands, some of which incorporate landscaping and pedestrian refuges aimed at traffic calming and pedestrian safety.
“While we apologize for the short-term inconvenience to our residents, this project will better connect the waterfront with our downtown,” Roses said. “These improvements will provide city residents, tourists and cyclists with a safer, more functional and visually aesthetic corridor to access all the beauty and activity along our waterfront.”
